Reece Adams has almost 20 years’ experience working in the Disability sector.

Beginning his career as a Disability Support Worker, Reece has continued working with people with Disabilities in various capacities including Occupational Therapist, Researcher and Head of a state-wide health service for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

After completing his Bachelor of Occupational Therapy Sciences at Deakin University in 2006, Reece then completed his postgraduate Honours Research at Monash University in 2016, studying the Wheelchair and Seating Assessment process for adults with Developmental Disabilities.

Reece’s work experience includes community-based services for people with disabilities such as vision impairment, neurological conditions, and complex developmental disabilities.

In 2016 Reece began leading the research for the state-wide Centre for Developmental Disability Health and was Head of the Centre from 2019 until 2022.

During the COVID period Reece was pivotal in developing innovative ways people with disabilities could access healthcare, including supporting our most vulnerable community members with disabilities, to receive their COVID-19 and other vaccinations.

Reece’s passion for collaborating with people with disabilities has led to the development of much needed services and resources including a specialist healthcare access support model, and the recently launched ‘My Lived iD’ hub.

The My Lived iD hub supports Australians with intellectual disabilities and mental health needs, access information, education and find services local to them across Australia.

As an Occupational Therapist, Reece has special interest in complex wheelchair and seating prescription, as well as functional behaviour management.

The cornerstone of Reece’s approach is the importance of evidence-based practice, and through research and collaboratively working with people with disabilities to find innovative outcomes.

What drives Reece is his aim to improve the quality of lives of people with disabilities.
