We are so fortunate to have someone as experienced as Joanne on our team and we are very excited that she will be presenting about dysphagia which is such an important topic.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n This workshop will provide essential basic skills in identification and collaborative management of dysphagia which is so prevalent for many NDIS participants<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dysphagia is a medical term for swallowing difficulties. It is associated with a wide range of disabilities and health conditions.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2018<\/em><\/strong>People with disability who have dysphagia are more likely to die from choking or respiratory illnesses or have serious health complications because of poor management of dysphagia.\u2019( NDIS Practice alert 2020<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Joanne Whiteoak<\/a> will deliver a session that addresses.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Learning Objectives:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This event is part of our series of professional development opportunities at Hearth<\/a>, bringing together leaders in the field. Joanne is a highly experienced Speech Pathologist<\/a> having worked in Australia and the United Kingdom for over 28 years.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n This has included work in private and public acute and rehabilitation facilities in Australia, such as Alfred Health, Epworth Healthcare<\/a>, Monash Health<\/a>, Melbourne Health<\/a>, and Western Health<\/a>. In the UK she has worked at HCA Healthcare<\/a> and a range of public NHS hospitals. Joanne\u2019s roles have been diverse and in addition to several Senior clinical Speech Pathology positions she has worked as a Speech Pathology department Manager, presented at workshops and lectures on Brain injury in Malaysia and participated in research into the use of productive communication strategies for people post traumatic brain injury.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Joanne has extensive skills working with adults with acquired speech, language, cognitive, voice and swallowing difficulties.
