{"id":4031,"date":"2017-11-17T06:01:42","date_gmt":"2017-11-17T06:01:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.hearthaustralia.com.au\/?p=236"},"modified":"2021-07-12T22:15:55","modified_gmt":"2021-07-12T12:15:55","slug":"our-choice-expo-excitement-building-up-at-hearth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.hearthaustralia.com.au\/our-choice-expo-excitement-building-up-at-hearth\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Choice Expo excitement building up at Hearth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s a buzz around Hearth right now, ahead of one of the year\u2019s biggest gatherings of community and disability support providers in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>It will be our first time at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valid.org.au\/our-choice-expo-southern\">Our Choice Expo<\/a> in Caulfield, and we are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible to tell you all about how we want to make a difference to lives. So be sure to make time to meet us at Caulfield Racecourse on Tuesday 21<sup>st<\/sup> November.<\/p>\n<p>We will be one of over a hundred and twenty exhibitors, all showcasing areas of disability support including personal care (our specialty!), equipment, early intervention, housing, technology, leisure and more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndis.gov.au\">The National Disability Insurance Scheme<\/a> (NDIS) is being rolled out across Victoria right now so the Expo will be important for many in the community preparing to access the NDIS as well as putting their approved plans to work.<\/p>\n<p>For Hearth founder Justin Scanlon, it is important that the Expo brings to life key pillars of NDIS \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndis.gov.au\/medias\/documents\/hce\/h5b\/8799507939358\/Factsheet-Choice-and-Control-A4-v0.5.pdf\">choice and control<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Participant choice is important and what better way than to have all the providers together\u201d he says. It&#8217;s an opportunity for participants, families and the support network to meet providers.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_242\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-242\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-242\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.hearthaustralia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_5228-700x560.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"560\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-242\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hearth Relationship Managers Rashmika and Nellie selecting our information flyers for Our Choice Expo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rashmika, one of our Relationship Managers pointed to the role the Expo could play in removing some uncertainties during this important time of change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe that for many families, especially those whose children have had a recent diagnosis the whole NDIS process can be very daunting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFamilies need to have an opportunity to ask questions and receive information that is relevant to their specific situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But what about having to visit the one hundred plus different stands? Could it not be a bit much?<\/p>\n<p>Not at all according to Nellie, Head of our Relationship Managers at Hearth. She says the Expo is one of the platforms where Australians with a disability are able realise what the NDIS offers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExpo&#8217;s are traditionally settings where individuals should be overwhelmed with the variety and quality of choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithin the health sector, this is particularly important for individuals who live with a disability, to have the opportunity to exercise their right to choice and control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course, one thing is for sure &#8211; Nellie and Rashmika are clear they want as many people as possible to choose Hearth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe that at Hearth we have a very unique approach to providing care. We place value and a high emphasis on the individual and their family,\u201d Rashmika says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe acknowledge that for the support worker and family relationship to be successful they must be carefully matched.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She adds, \u201cI am really excited about meeting the families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nellie echoes the sentiment. \u201cWe will be out at force at the Expo, Founder, Relationship Managers and support workers alike! There won&#8217;t be a better way to get an idea of the full extent of our organisation and what we offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_243\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-243\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-243\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.hearthaustralia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_5216.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-243\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Justin Scanlon and Hearth support worker Emma spreading word about Hearth at Camberwell Station<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It is just this type of vigour in his team which energises Justin Scanlon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe essence of Hearth is its people. People who every day wake to strive to make a big difference to people&#8217;s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on my personal experience, I founded Hearth to make a big difference to not only my family situation, but also to many other families,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>The Hearth team is hoping that the meetings which families and individuals with a disability have with them and indeed other disability service providers at the Expo make a difference.<\/p>\n<p>At the Hearth stand, we will provide information about our services as well as special events we are organising with sector experts including the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.hearthaustralia.com.au\/accelerate-ndis-pre-planning-hearth-experts\/\">free Q &amp; A public forum on NDIS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_244\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-244\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-244\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.hearthaustralia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_5200-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-244\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hearth Relationship Manager Rashmika tells a train commuter about Hearth<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rashmika says it\u2019s important that everyone feels genuinely supported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am hoping the families that come to the Expo leave with a sense of community.
