As we move into the 2nd<\/sup>\nweek of Stage IV lockdown the impacts of further restrictions, physical\ndistancing, social isolation, loss of freedom and increased pressures can make\nus feel anxious, stressed, and worried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The combination of these factors can\nbegin to take its toll, especially for our Support Worker community that are in\nthe frontline caring and supporting those that need it most. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We thank you for your dedication and\ncommitment to ensuring that our participants continue to receive the care and\nsupport that they need during these challenging times. In our recent Support\nWorker check in calls many of you expressed concerns about the heightened\nlevels of anxiety at this time particularly with the wearing of masks and\nmanaging your wellbeing and personal safety. Being aware of how you are feeling\nand knowing what you can do to look after your physical & mental wellbeing\nis an important part of staying healthy at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To support you over the coming weeks\nof lock down we will continue to keep you updated on relevant information and\nprovide you with tips and strategies to help look after yourself and those\naround you as we tackle these challenges together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Read below for the first of out\nSurviving lockdown strategies<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tip # 1 – <\/strong>Stay home if you are sick<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Tip # 2 –\nMaintain your daily routine<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Maintain your existing routine or try\nto set a new routine to deal with this situation. Doing this will help you stay\ngrounded and remind you that there are still some things that are within your\ncontrol. Your daily routine should include sleeping and waking up at the same\ntime every day, having meals regularly, doing some exercise and having time for\nyourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tip # 3 – Accept\nyour emotions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n You may be feeling many negative\nemotions \u2013 stress, anger, worry, frustration, or even fear. Remind yourself\nthat these are common human emotions and that it is okay to experience them,\nespecially in such challenging situations. Doing this can validate your\nemotions and remind you that you are not alone. You can write about your\nemotions in a journal and reflect upon what you have written to better\nunderstand them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tip # 4 – Soothe\nyourself<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n At times, you might find yourself\nfeeling overwhelmed and burdened with all that is going on \u2013 in these cases,\nself-soothing can be a helpful skill. Your mind is more capable of providing\nyou with a solution to overcome problems when it is relaxed. You can try simple\nthings like taking deep breaths, having a shower, listening to music, or pacing\nfor some time. You could also meditate or practise visualisation to calm\nyourself down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tip # 5 – How to\nwear your face mask safely <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Wearing a mask provides an additional\nphysical barrier and helps prevent the spread of coronavirus and community\ntransmission. All support workers are required to wear a face mask when working\non shift. Watch this video<\/a>\nto learn the safest way to apply your mask to minimise further infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tip # 6 – Seek\nadditional support<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n Staying connected and reaching out to family and friends is important but there may be times when you need professional support if you feel that the stress or anxiety that you are experiencing is getting too much.
