We continue to adapt and respond to the impact of COVID-19. The following updates from our plan may be of interest: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>Business Continuity <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are <strong>continuing to deliver the essential service of disability support<\/strong> and are taking every step to maintain the safety of our participants and support workers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 a).<strong> Easter Holidays<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that <strong>Easter Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday are all public holidays<\/strong> and therefore our Relationship Managers will be taking a well-deserved break. If you need assistance during the Easter Break, please do not hesitate to contact us on 1800 894 013 and our on-call team will be able to assist you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 b).<strong> Home Schooling<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most significant change this week has been the announcement that \u201cmost <strong>Victorian students will be educated from home when Term 2 starts<\/strong> next week to ensure the physical distancing will help slow the spread of coronavirus\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a><strong>\u201cAll Victorian government primary, secondary\nand special schools will move <\/strong><\/a>to remote and\nflexible learning and teaching.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll\nchildren who can learn at home must learn from home \u2013 with <strong>exceptions<\/strong>\nonly in <strong>extremely limited<\/strong> circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVictorian government schools will recommence on\nTuesday 14 April with a pupil-free day, with students <strong>to begin classes on\nWednesday 15 April<\/strong>. These new arrangements will remain in place for the\nduration of Term 2 and will then be reviewed\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-premier-of-victoria\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.premier.vic.gov.au\/victorian-students-to-learn-from-home-as-vce-timelines-revised\/\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We cover off the impact of this decision and the full implications of this action in <strong>section 6 <\/strong>of this update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>Extra Support <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Great\nnews in addition to the <strong>1,800 masks<\/strong> we purchased, we have been able to\npurchase and receive delivery of <strong>40,000 Nitrile gloves<\/strong>! We anticipate\nthat the1,000 bottles of <strong>hand sanitiser<\/strong> we have ordered will\narrive within the next 3 weeks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\nwill distribute the masks, sanitiser, gloves and sign in a <strong>care pack<\/strong> as\nsoon as the hand sanitiser arrives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you urgently need some surgical masks or Nitrile gloves <\/strong>please contact us on<a href=\"mailto:info@hearthaustalia.com.au\"><strong> info@hearthaustralia.com.au<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>and we will organise immediate delivery<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Contingency Planning <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hearth is continuing to build a <strong>contingent workforce<\/strong> as a matter of urgency, increasing recruitment of support workers to support the need to have back-up supports matched across our participants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Community Access<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Federal and State Governments have announced several measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. In Victoria \u201cStage 3 restrictions came into effect at 11:59 pm Monday 30 March 2020. They will be in place for 4 weeks and reviewed as required\u201d. In Home Support Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One\nof the outcomes of \u201cremote learning\u201d is the need to spend more time at home. NDIS Funding for Home Schooling <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nresponse to the Victorian Governments announcement \u201cAll Victorian government primary,\nsecondary and special schools will move to remote and flexible learning and\nteaching, some participants will require <strong>additional support<\/strong> to assist\n\u201chome schooling\u201d. If you require additional Support Worker resource, please do\nnot hesitate to contact your Relationship Manager who can organise the additional\nsupport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ndirect impact of additional support is <strong>additional cost<\/strong> which hasn\u2019t been\nfactored into the participants approved NDIS plan and funding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\nwanted to share a summary of the approach Hearth is taking to deal with the\nvariations of plan funding in response to home schooling. The changes will have\nsignificant impacts on many participant&#8217;s plans and cause additional stress \/\nanxiety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We\nhave<\/strong> <strong>also\ninformed the NDIA<\/strong> Chief Executive Officer of the following approach and\nawait his response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nprinciples of our approach to manage any funding variation include: &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KEY\nPRINCIPLES:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Reasonable &amp; necessary support maintained i.e.<ul><li>The support from group-based activities is shifted to\nindividualized support in the home<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Clear audit trail of support i.e.<ul><li>Costed by shift by day by month <\/li><\/ul><ul><li>First variation to the end April, then month by month<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Clear communication with the Support Coordinators &amp; Plan\nManagers<\/li><li>Support Coordinators to engage the NDIA to manage the review\nprocess<\/li><li>Careful monitoring of the funding \u201cburn rate\u201d to inform the timing\nof the review by all to ensure approved funding is not exceeded<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Also,\nfor your information I have attached our \u201cHEARTH COVID-19 ADDITIONAL FUNDING INTERNAL\nPROCESS\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/staging.hearthaustralia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Additional-Funding-for-COVID-19-Process.pdf\">Additional Funding for COVID-19 &#8211; Process<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/staging.hearthaustralia.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Additional-Funding-for-COVID-19-Process.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Justin\nScanlon | Hearth Support Services<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>9\/4\/20 Hearth COVID \u2013 19 Action Plan Update (2) Welcome to the Hearth team action plan update.
